SEU CHAGAS | IF WE DON’T TELL, WE  JUST FORGET IT

"And here, before the television arrived in our community it was like this: at the end of the week everyone used to meet in someone’s house to tell a story at night and we would stick around until almost one in the morning. I used to tell many stories, I will not deny it, but because I stopped telling them for a long time, I forgot. After the television arrived here in Araçá, which has been more than twenty years, it stopped this habit of going out to a neighbor's house to tell a story, and when we go, it is to watch (television). And, that’s it: if we don't tell, we just forget it, right?... I forgot.

At that time, whoever had a television here was ‘cumpadre’ Mair and ‘cumpadre’ Coca, isn’t it?! And then, we would go to their houses to watch the news, then we would watch a soap opera and all, would stay there for a couple of hours telling stories and after that we would go back home. Yeah, but we stopped telling stories to each other. It was good, oh: one would tell a story, the other would  guess it, it was cool”
